Rehabilitation Schooling

Like humans, each equine is unique. Horses and ponies have their own individual personalities, language and instinctive behaviour. Unfortunately for us humans, equines communicate through sign language and it is our misunderstanding of this sign language that creates problems. Communication is the crux of any relationship and learning to recognise and understand equine sign language will allow trust, respect and friendship to blossom.

When a horse or pony is physically injured through trauma or accident the consequences may present themselves as behavioural problems such as biting, kicking or rearing. Physical deformities from rider error, un-natural training techniques or force may build up causing physical stresses on the body lowering resiliency against further injury. Behavioural problems caused by physical pain can be rectified by treating the injury through various complementary therapy techniques offered at the centre or by conventional veterinary practise. (Any treatments must have veterinary referral.)

When a horse is mentally stressed, psychologically damaged or emotionally disturbed, abnormal behaviours in the equine’s usual manner may arise due to a previous bad experience or confusion. When the problem is established the horse can be nurtured back to its optimum mental state. Some therapies such as Bach Flower Essences may help to alleviate hormonal and emotional imbalance.

Eqizz Therapy Centre’s rehabilitation schooling is performed by very experienced, dedicated trainers who are experts at reading and understanding equine sign language and are able to provide solutions to problems, both physical and behavioural. Rehabilitation programmes are tailored to suit the needs of each horse or pony and its environment as there is no "one size fits all" method.
